conventional sockets

The first sockets that appeared for this kind of amputation are those called « conventional »

They are distinguished by their suspension system secured by a strap over the shoulder or a belt connected to a piece of the hip joint.

The materials which constitute these prostheses are wooden, duralumin, and more recently resin or thermoformable materials (polypropylene, polyethylene).

This system is now used only in the context of geriatric prostheses when dealing with a flaccid stump which does not allow sufficient control of  volumes and in the frame of the provisional prosthetics, pending the healing of the stump.
